"Billy?"

"Yeah, Dom?"

"What do you miss most about home?"

Billy sat up from his position in the cool grass of Scotland. "I am home, Dom."

"Well yeah, you are right now. But what about when we're in New Zealand?" asked Dom as if it was obvious.

"Oh." Billy thought for a moment, lying back down. "Probably my sister. And the fact that I get to sleep in my own bed. What about you?"

Dom snorted and then thought for a moment. "Well, there's the bed thing, of course. And I miss my family too. Mostly Matt, but I don't know why."

"Understood, of course."

"I guess it's just that I miss being with people that I love all the time," said Dom, sighing loudly.

"But I love you," said Billy pointedly.

"I know. But it's not like a family, you know. It's like...you're my best mate, and you love me because we're best mates. But you don't love me because we're family, so that's why it's different."

"Oh," said Billy. "I know what you mean."

Billy was quiet for several minutes, and then decided that he should maybe say something to Dom. "You know, I don't love you just because we're best mates. And I know that you don't love me solely for that reason either."

"What do you mean?" asked Dom, slightly confused. Could Billy possibly mean what Dom thought that he meant?

"It's like you're a part of my family, you know? The brother that I never had. I mean, Maggie's great and all, but I always really wanted a brother. Of course, when Mum and Dad died, that wasn't an option anymore, but still. I always sort of hoped that I did have a brother somewhere, and that I would meet him someday. In a way, I have," said Billy, concentrating on a star above him.

"Billy, that's sweet."

"I mean it, though," said Billy, turning to face Dom. "I really do, you know."

Dom faced Billy as well. "I know. And you're sort of like another brother to me too, I suppose. Minus that fact that I already have a brother, of course. But anyway, you're more of a brother to me than Matt is. We spend more time together than he and I do, that's for sure."

"I guess you're right on that one." Billy faced back towards the sky again. "So you'd say that the two of us are pretty close, yeah?"

"I would say that, why?" asked Dom casually.

"Well...just how close are we?" Billy turned to find that Dom had moved closer to him and was staring back at him so that they were almost nose to nose.

"Closer than you think." Dom leaned in and kissed Billy gently on the mouth. Billy, though shocked, kissed Dom back just as gently, neither of them rushing the kiss.

When their lungs demanded oxygen, Dom and Billy pulled away from each other.

"So..." said Dom, looking suddenly and uncharacteristically shy.

"Guess we're closer than we thought," said Billy, rubbing his nose against Dom's.

"That's not...it's not a problem, is it?" asked Dom quietly. "If we were to be...together?"

"Now Dom, why would you think that?" said Billy, and then looking up at the sky. "Look!" Billy pointed up in to the stars, and the pair of them watched a shooting star fly over head. "If that's not a sign, I don't know what is."

Dom laughed and then shivered a little bit. "I'm getting cold, Bills. We've been out here for hours."

"Let's go in then," said Billy, standing and pulling Dom to his feet. Linking their fingers together, Dom led Billy back to the house. "I know a certain fireplace that we can warm in front of..."
